Research

My scientific goal as a pediatric pulmonologist is to identify pathogenic mechanisms and therapeutic targets in early cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease. My interest in this field began as a graduate student in Dr. Paul McCray’s lab, and grew as I have cared for patients with this disease. Improving outcomes for patients with CF will require better understanding of the host defense mechanisms that are impaired in early CF disease and the bacterial factors that subsequently enable chronic infection. Therefore, I have developed a strong interest in identifying bacterial factors that may contribute to persistent airway infection in CF.
